Hanoi man charged with raping Vietnamese-American woman at Phu Tho hotel

PHU THO, Vietnam – Police in Phu Tho Province have charged a 23-year-old man from Hanoi with the alleged rape of a 24-year-old Vietnamese-American woman at a hotel apartment, authorities confirmed on Wednesday, following an investigation that began after the victim filed a complaint more than two weeks after the incident. According to investigators, the suspect, identified as N. M. H., allegedly forced sexual intercourse with the victim, identified as N.T.Q.T., at apartment SK125 in the Lynn Times Thanh Thuy Hotel in Thanh Thuy Commune on July 5 this year.

The victim, who holds United States citizenship and was staying in Hanoi's Hoan Kiem Ward, filed a criminal complaint on July 21, prompting investigators to immediately launch inquiries despite the incident being reported more than 10 days after it occurred, with officers interviewing the victim, witnesses, and the suspect. On Monday, police formally launched a criminal case and charged the suspect with rape under Clause 1, Article 141 of Vietnam's Penal Code.
