DONG NAI / HCMC — Construction on Phase 1 of the $16-billion Long Thanh International Airport reached a pivotal milestone today as engineering crews finished the installation of the iconic lotus blossom-shaped steel roof canopy.

A Gateway for 100 Million Annual Passengers

Located 40 kilometers east of central Ho Chi Minh City, Long Thanh is designed to become one of Southeast Asia's premier aviation hubs, rivaling Singapore Changi and Bangkok Suvarnabhumi.

"Long Thanh will serve as Vietnam's primary global gateway, equipped with cutting-edge baggage AI routing, smart biometric boarding, and direct metro rail connectivity to downtown Saigon," confirmed the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV).

Phase 1 Readiness

  • Runway 1 & Taxiways: Fully paved 4,000-meter CAT-III instrument landing runway capable of handling Airbus A380 and Boeing 777X aircraft.
  • Terminal Capacity: Phase 1 handles 25 million passengers and 1.2 million tons of cargo annually upon opening.
  • Expressway Links: The 8-lane Bien Hoa–Vung Tau expressway and Thu Thiem–Long Thanh light rail guarantee 35-minute transit to District 1.

Airlines including Vietnam Airlines, Vietjet Air, and Bamboo Airways have finalized plans for terminal lounges and maintenance hangars.
