The People's Court of Region 5 in Dong Thap Province sentenced Ngo Hoang Thanh, 34, of Ho Chi Minh City, to nine years and Nguyen Hong Hai, 32, of Tay Ninh Province, to eight years for organising the illegal exit of others.
Four Foreigners Arrested After Alleged Gold Shop Robbery In Central Vietnam
According to the indictment, a traffic police patrol found the body of the Malaysian man on the Ho Chi Minh City–Trung Luong–My Thuan Expressway in My Loi Commune, Dong Thap Province, at about 1.15pm on 24 November 2025. Investigators determined that Thanh and Hai, recruited by other members of the network, were tasked with picking up foreign nationals after they entered Vietnam and driving them to Chu Doc Bus Station in An Giang Province, where others arranged their crossing into Cambodia via unofficial routes. Thanh earned between 1,000 and 2,000 US dollars per successful exit and shared part of the payment with Hai.
The victim had arrived at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on 24 November 2025 before the two men collected him and headed for An Giang. Hai drove, Thanh sat in the front passenger seat, and the Malaysian was alone in the back. During the trip he reportedly grew increasingly tense and showed signs of psychological distress before opening the door and jumping onto the road, suffering fatal injuries.

Dong Thap's Security Investigation Agency found the victim had fallen prey to a network moving foreign nationals illegally into Cambodia, where they were reportedly recruited to work for companies tied to online scam operations in an autonomous region. Beyond this case, Thanh organised the illegal exit of five other foreign nationals to Cambodia, earning 116 million dong, while Hai helped take four of them out of Vietnam and received 19 million dong.
